Apple Pie Bars (Easy Layered Dessert Bars)

Ingredients

Crust & Crumble

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 large egg

Apple Filling

  • 3 cups peeled, diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

1. Preheat and prep

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper.

2. Make crust mixture

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add egg and mix until dough forms.

3. Press crust

Press about two-thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until lightly golden.

4. Prepare apple filling

In a separate bowl, toss apples with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until evenly coated.

5. Assemble

Spread apple mixture evenly over the baked crust. Crumble remaining dough over the top.

6. Bake

Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until topping is golden and apples are tender.

7. Cool and slice

Let bars cool completely before slicing for clean edges.

For extra pie flavor, serve these bars slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
