Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup red and green M&Ms (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
  3. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix until a thick dough forms.
  5. Fold in 1 cup M&Ms.
  6. Cover bowl and refrigerate dough for 1 hour (important for thick cookies!).
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop dough into large balls (about 2–3 tbsp each) and place on prepared sheet.
  9. Press extra M&Ms onto the tops for a bakery look.
  10. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly underbaked.
  11. Cool 10 minutes on baking sheet before moving to a rack.
